ASK DR. SCHELLING I have a Ragdoll cat who is just the sweetest thing! I can't seem to get him interested in his scratching post, though. I think it's because it falls over when he puts his front feet up on it. He's so big! What can I do? –Ragdoll Ruth |

Dear Ruth, It's great that you got your Ragdoll a scratching post! All cats should have at least one. But, as you've found out, they won't use it if it's wobbly and unstable. And Ragdolls are big and strong, so they need an exceptionally strong post. They need a tall one, too, because Ragdolls are long when they stretch out, and cats want to be able to stretch all the way out against their post.

DEAR FANCY, My mom was upset last night. I heard her say that someone told her she had to get rid of me because she's having a baby. Get rid of me?! But I'm family! What in the world is a baby, and why does it mean that I have to go away? –Baby Blues … … … … Dear Blues, Babies are tiny humans that make a lot of noise and produce interesting smells. Sounds like your mom is going to have one, and some people think that cats are dangerous to babies. There is also an illness that some cats can have that people need to watch out for when they are getting ready to have a baby: toxoplasmosis. Luckily, my mom says that very few cats need to find a new place to live when a baby is coming. Print this article and leave it for your human to find. It will help her prepare for happy times with her new baby AND you: "Cats and Babies: Setting up for Success." –Fancy… … … … … … … … Have a question for Fancy? Email her at: askfancy@mewsletter.com |

SILLY SQUID CAT TOY: I am not silly. Ever. I am refined, poised, and reserved. Well, most of the time. I will admit that, when my Silly Squid toy comes out, my cool slips a little. Can you really blame me? I mean, look at these things! They are so cute. Crazy legs and googly eyes . . . if I could laugh, I would. Instead, I pounce. And when I do, the Squid's legs go all berserk, and that makes me feel even goofier. Ah, well, one can't be zipped up all the time, right? I just hope my human doesn't ever have that recording device on when I'm playing with my Silly Squid. BUY NOW HONEYSUCKLE PLAY MAT: I don't know why my human doesn't like it when I lie down right on the books he's reading. It's kind of baffling, but then humans don't make much sense most of the time. We argued about this lying on the book thing for a while, and he finally got me my honeysuckle play mat. It smells so good that I feel really happy when I'm near it. I sit on my play mat now instead of his books, and he seems happy about that. Baffling, yes, but since my play mat is so comfy, I won't complain. I can't wait to see how he convinces me not to sleep on his head at night. BUY NOW HONEYSUCKLE SOCKS: I don't wear socks, but I used to like playing with my humans' when I was a kitten. She didn't really like that, so she got me these socks instead. These are even more fun to play with, so now I leave her regular socks alone. My honeysuckle socks are the perfect size for tossing in the air and batting around. They smell a lot better than regular socks, too. In fact, the honeysuckle inside makes me feel super happy and playful. Whenever the smell starts to go away, my human spritzes my socks with water, and the lovely honeysuckle smell comes right back. I can't understand why my human still uses her regular socks; she should get some of these for herself. BUY NOW Have a favorite product you want to review? Send it to askfancy@mewsletter.com |
