Dear Dr. Schelling, The other day when I cleaned my cat’s litter box, I noticed that her stools were very soft, like the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. The smell was horrendous. What could be wrong? –Sydney M., Boston, MADear Sydney, It sounds like your cat has a case of diarrhea. Diarrhea is a common symptom in cats and there are many possible causes.
